The Home That Opened the World to Me

It is often said that the foundation of one’s life determines how far one can go, and for me, that foundation is the place that gave me not only shelter, food and education but also love, hope, and a future - the Children Welfare Centre.

I spent 10 unforgettable years at the Centre, and those years shaped everything I am today. Under the great leadership of President Mrs Rupa Sunar and the constant support and courage of loving sisters Ms Rina and Ms Rima. I found a true sense of belonging. They weren’t just living their life, they were mentors, role models, and family to me. I found living goddess on them. Their dedication to every child went beyond food and shelter, they taught us life lessons, values, and the importance of kindness and resilience.

Some of my happiest memories are from those days :

(Doing worship, celebrating Christmas, and New Year together, going on picnics, watching movies, and feeling the warmth of being part of something bigger than myself).

These weren’t just fun moments, they were the building blocks of my identity, happiness and memories of my childhood.

Thanks to the Centre, I am now living in Japan with a university degree, a job, a home, and a family of my own. I often reflect with immense gratitude on the path that brought me here. Without the Children Welfare Centre, I cannot even imagine what direction my life might have taken but sure that I won’t what I am today.

What brings me even more joy is knowing that many of my brothers and sisters from the Centre are now thriving around the world — working hard, supporting their families, and giving back to their communities. That is the true legacy of the Centre “not just transforming lives, but empowering individuals to go out and uplift others”.

Every time I return to Nepal, I make it a point to visit the Centre. It still stands as a beacon of hope for countless children. But the work is far from over.

There are still many young children in need of the same support we once received. Let us come together to support the Children Welfare Centre so that it can continue to be a home, a school, a family, and a launching pad for many more futures.

To the Children Welfare Centre,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You didn’t just give me a place to stay, you gave me the world. I will always be grateful. God bless Children Welfare Center and god bless us.

With love and gratitude

Samjhana Ramdam

Namaste,

My name is Samjhana Ramdam, and I was born in 1998 in a beautiful village called Narchang in Nepal. Life took a significant turn when I was just six years old—I came under the care of a children’s welfare center, which became my home for the next 17 years. While life had its challenges, that home became the foundation of everything I am today. It was more than just a shelter—it was where I found love, family, stability, and hope.
Growing up at the CWC shaped me deeply. I was surrounded by a warm and supportive community that provided not only food, healthcare, and education, but also a sense of belonging and security. Despite the uncertainties of life, my childhood was filled with laughter, shared memories, and the joy of being surrounded by people who genuinely cared. To this day, I often find myself reminiscing about those moments and wishing I could relive them.

In 2014, I completed my Grade 10 education from Kingdom Star English School. I was always a hardworking and determined student. After completing my School Leaving Certificate (SLC), I followed my dream of becoming a nurse—a dream rooted in a desire to give back and help others. I enrolled in a PCL Nursing program in Nepal, a path that demanded hard work, discipline, and perseverance.

I am forever grateful to my guardians—Rina sister, Rupa mummy, Birendra brother, and Santosh brother—for standing by me throughout this journey. I am equally thankful to my sponsors, Desiree and Lionel, whose kindness and unwavering support made my education possible. Their belief in me gave me the strength to keep going, and in 2017, I proudly completed my nursing degree and became a registered nurse in Nepal.
After my time at the CWC came to an end, I stepped out into the world carrying big dreams and the values that had been instilled in me. In 2020, I moved to the United Kingdom, where I pursued and completed my bachelor’s degree. Today, I am preparing to sit for my Registered Nurse exam in the UK, and I am currently working at a care home, continuing to serve and care for others with compassion.

Looking back, my time at the children’s welfare center is filled with precious memories. The other children became like siblings to me, and the care and dedication of the staff left a lasting impact on my heart. People like Rupa mummy, Reena sister, Santosh brother, Birendra brother, and, of course, Desiree and Lionel, were not just caregivers—they were my family. Their love and selflessness helped shape the person I am today.

Every achievement I’ve made, every dream I’ve chased, and every step forward I’ve taken has been made possible by the unwavering support of the CWC family. I am deeply grateful for everything they have done—for the education, the life lessons, the love, and the opportunity to dream beyond my circumstances.
As I continue to grow in my journey, I carry with me the lessons, memories, and values I learned at CWC. I hope to one day give back in the same way I was supported, and to be a source of hope for others, just as so many have been for me.

From the bottom of my heart—thank you.
Your kindness, belief, and love have changed my life.

With deepest gratitude,
Samjhana Ramdam

My Journey – A Message from the Heart

Hello, my name is Sapana Pokharel. I am 27 years old and come from a humble background. I was raised and brought up in CWC, a beautiful home filled with love, care, and support. It has truly been a privilege to be part of such a wonderful family.

By the grace of CWC and the generosity of my sponsors, Desiree and Lionel, I am proud to say that today I am a nurse, working at an international hospital in Dubai. I am happy, independent, and able to support my family — something that fills me with pride and gratitude.

Who I am today is entirely credited to CWC and my sponsors. Without their love and support, I truly believe I would not have come this far. CWC is a home for underprivileged children, where dreams are nurtured, and lives are transformed. I am living proof of that — my life reflects the power of care, opportunity, and hope.

Now, I humbly ask for your support to help shape a child’s future. Giving is not just about making a donation — it’s about making a difference. Don’t miss the chance to bring hope into someone’s life. Take that step — I promise, you won’t regret it.

With love and gratitude,
Sapana Pokharel
